Club Atlético Monarcas Morelia is a Mexican professional football club based in Morelia, Michoacán, playing in Liga MX. Club Atlético Morelia was founded November 21, 1924, as "Oro Morelia" in Morelia, Michoacán. In 1950, Club Deportivo Morelia was among the teams that founded the Segunda División. After the 1956–1957 season, in which they ended up in second place, they were officially promoted into the Primera División to replace Puebla. The club's colors are generated from the city's flag which are yellow and red, which are the same colors in the Spanish flag, because the city is a novohispana city.
Morelia has had some notable players in their history. Marco Antonio Figueroa is the club's all-time leading scorer with 130 goals. Adolfo Bautista, Rafael Márquez Lugo, Moisés Muñoz, Miguel Sabah, Joel Huiqui, Adrián Aldrete, Enrique Pérez, Édgar Lugo and Elias Hernandez, are some of the players that were called up to the Mexico national team while playing with the team.
Club de Fútbol Pachuca is a Mexican professional football team based in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico. Founded by British miners in 1901, it is one of the oldest still existing football clubs in the Americas. After decades of mediocre or poor performances between the 1st and 2nd division, Pachuca promoted once again to the Primera División in 1998. Since then it has been one of the most successful clubs in Mexico, winning five national championships, four CONCACAF Champions' Cups, the 2007 SuperLiga, defeating Major League Soccer's LA Galaxy and one Copa Sudamericana in 2006 Pachuca the first CONCACAF team to win a CONMEBOL tournament.
Club Pachuca’s roster includes their iconic goalkeeper, Óscar Pérez who’s nicknamed "El Conejo" Spanish for "The Rabbit". He has been capped 54 times for the Mexico national team since 1997. He played four games at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and 2010 FIFA World Cup; and was selected for the 1998 FIFA World Cup but never played. Seasoned Colombian defender Aquivaldo Mosquera, argentinian forward Ariel Nahuelpan and the young up and coming star, Irving “Chucky” Lozano.
Club Pachuca is also a founding member of the Mexican Primera División. Pachuca is still one of the most successful clubs in Mexican Primera División. 2001 was also a celebration year for the team. It became the first Mexican professional football team to reach 100 years of existence.
This clash of Liga MX first-division titans continues Latin Entertainments tradition of providing world-class soccer to the region. The last Mexican League match played in Stockton was on March 25th of this year when a record crowd enjoyed the Leon vs Atlas match.
